If you have retail stores and restaurants in your community, here’s a great marketing tip to create a speaking opportunity that’s win-win for everyone.
Research who has retail space and check them out to see if:
- they hold events to attract customers or serve current ones. You can often determine this by walking in the store/restaurant and see if anything is posted or check their website.
- if they don’t, do they have enough space to host an event.
Then, visit on a quiet day and ask to chat with the manager.
If you’re an author, bring a copy of your book with you and give this as a gift. Explain that you’re a speaker with a mission to help (fill in the blank about who you help) and would they be interested in hosting an event where you make a short presentation (say, up to 30 minutes) and they invite customers from their list and advertise this to the community.
Why is this win-win?
You get in front of new potential clients and they have a reason to pull people into their retail space. I had a client who pitched an upscale country club to allow him to make a presentation about career transitioning and it worked great. The country club got to invite potential new members while my client got in front of an ideal audience.
