If you are trying to land a TEDx talk here’s a few tips:
- There are thousands of TEDx Organizers all over the world. Not all of them accept applications (sometimes called “self-nominating) and so you want to identify which ones do. Many TEDx organizers organize their event inviting speakers directly because somehow, they’ve heard of them.
- Once you identify organizers who accept applications, be aware that there will be common ground, yet many of them have their own process. Some have a lengthy application, some shorter. Some require a short video which goes along with the written application – this video shows you in action. Others have you apply, then if they’re interested, you’re invited to audition.
- The primary thing about your application is they want to know your “idea worth spreading,” and this should be concise, compelling, clear and catchy.
- Second to the idea itself, they want to know about your credibility: why are you the one to talk about this idea?
By the way, you cannot find TEDx applications on the TED website. Each Organizer has their own website and if they accept applications, you will find this on their site.
(I have an extensive list I’ve built up over time of organizers who are active and accept speakers; I share this when I coach my clients.)
